I’ve had this desk lamp since I was in 6th grade (circa 1992) and I always liked the body but hated the Halogen bulb inside. the 50watt 2pin Halogen bulb burnt out every 3-4 months and they ran super hot.  I think I retired this lamp in like ’98 when I went off to college and stashed it away with a burnt out bulb. I recently cleaned my garage and found it and decided to see if I can turn it to LED.

I took a 10 LED G4 disc from my RV and landscape led light collection and extended the legs with a paper clip and viola,  50-watt Halogen light dropped to 3 watts and it runs cool to the touch.

there is a two way rocker switch for high and low on the original Halogen but with the LED conversion,  it is just one setting probably because it consumes so much less energy.
here is a picture of my desk with just the desk lamp on and one with the lamp off.  the light is not as bright as the original 50-watt Halogen but it is more than sufficient as an extra desk lamp.

Awesome photos sent in from one of my customers. He took a 12V 10-watt LED Flood Light and built a custom mount and D-Cell Power pack to make a portable LED flood light. Awesome build. I’m a fan of the wood base.

Thanks for the picture Mark.

12V DC LED Lighting solution built with our 10-Watt 12V LED Flood Lights

Here is the PDF that shows the complete build:

12VDC_Lighting_Solution_original

A few of my customers took the time to document there 12V DC LED lighting project. They used these two 10-Watt LED 12V Flood Lights and paired it up with a 12V battery and built a custom wood box to mount the lights. They wanted a “grab-and-go” emergency lighting box and this was there solution. Along with the 2 x 10-Watt LED Flood lights, the system they designed can power other 12V  devices as well as a HAM radio.

Thanks for the contribution,

Gary

Here is a video from WE CARE Solar featuring Laura Stachel explaining her project and how the Solar suitcases are being used around the world. The GoldenGadgets.com L-A3W-12V: 3-watt LED Light bulb 12v DC is featured throughout this video. On marker 2:20 you will hear Laura talk specifically about our 12V DC bulb and how it uses only 3-watts of power.

Great job Laura and we look forward to working with you and WE CARE Solar.
